The highly respected awards recognise the phenomenal work of public relations practitioners around the globe during the pandemic.

United We Stream featured in the category awarding the best public relations campaign or project undertaken by a company operating specifically in the arts, culture, sport or entertainment sectors.

On announcing United We Stream the winner out of a shortlist of six national entries, the CIPR judges believed our entry was ‘creative, collaborative and effective.’

They commented: “United we Stream was a good demonstration of a PR campaign where the local government effectively worked with the local community on issues relevant to the local area. Their PR plan was wide-ranging, leveraged Manchester’s history and culture, alongside a strong public health message, all brought together in implementation with a fun element for real impact.

“United We Stream’s entry demonstrated good outcomes, achieving global reach and raising significant funds for charity and the local community.”

Co-founder of United We Stream and StreamGM Laura Graham, who leads on PR, media & communications said: “We are thrilled the Chartered Institute of Public Relations has given us this award.

“United We Stream was an inspirational and incredible roller coaster of a project to work on. Live streaming has been around for years, but the lockdowns in 2020 meant no more in-person clubbing, events or performances, so United We Stream quickly became a source of escapism, as audiences all over the world transitioned to live streamed experiences, connecting together through our platform.

“The project snowballed quickly, and some of the things that happened along the way, were nuts!

“United We Stream was mentioned in the Houses of Parliament by M.P Kate Green, We had a mayoral DJ battle, Spice Girl Melanie C showcased her impressive DJ skills, our Virgin Money Giving page crashed due to an overload of donations (a first for them apparently!), actors tweeted their support from LA, our FAC51 Hacienda NYE poster adorned the O2 Victoria Warehouse, giant traffic cones danced around in Wigan, and we even got a Twitter emoji!

“The countless messages of thanks and support from people watching from all over the world kept us motivated, to push creative boundaries and find fun, innovative and safe ways to entertain and engage our audiences.

“United We Stream empowered artists curators to achieve their creative potential, reach new audiences all over the world, and develop their practice in the digital sphere. Each show had a different audience which meant a bespoke communications plan for each production.

“In nine months, United We Stream produced 48 original live shows and amassed around 20 million views. The platform raised a total of Hospice and The Mayors Charity, supporting rough sleepers.
